FCPA Nancy Gathungu, CBS is the Auditor-General of the Republic of Kenya with experience in both public sector internal and external auditing. Her experience has played a pivotal role in strengthening public financial management and governance.
Internationally, she serves on the Board of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions Development Initiative (IDI). Regionally, she is the 1st Vice-President of the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI), where she also chairs the Technical and Institutional Capacity Building Committee. She is the Chairperson of the Governing Board of the AFROSAI English Speaking sub-region. Nancy is a member of key regional audit bodies, including the COMESA Board of External Auditors, the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region Audit Committee and the East African Community Audit Commission.
In Kenya, Nancy has been instrumental in championing the adoption of accrual accounting and strengthening the functions of Internal Audit and Audit Committees in the public sector. Her leadership continues to drive transparency, accountability, and good governance. Recently, she was elected Chair of the Constitutional Commissions and Independent Organizations (CCIOs) Caucus, further cementing her influence in public sector leadership and oversight.
Nancy is a seasoned expert in public finance management with over three decades of experience in advancing transparency and good governance and public sector accountability, including reforms in public finance. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. She is an active member of the Association of Women Accountants in Kenya, the Girls-for-Girls (G4G) Network and the Women on Boards Network in Kenya where she mentors young women.
